Phoenix Re-Solutions Ltd is a medium sized independent organisation, registered with Companies House, specialising in providing consultation, training and development services in the public sector. It was developed by David Smallacombe (pictured right), its current Owner/Director and launched in 1996 building on his professional history and experience in the Social Services and Health fields since 1972.

Most of the consultation and development work is carried out in health and social care organisations and contracts are mainly focused on joint working between local authorities and health trusts and/or Clinical Commissioning Group’s much of whose work was previously managed by Primary Care Trusts.

Working in a range of settings including the private as well as the public sector David has, over the years, noticed common themes in the management domain. Almost all organisations struggle with similar dilemmas, for example; how to balance the constraints related to a reducing financial base against the need to provide an optimistic and respectful context for personnel to work in; how to drive production faster whilst still caring for staff; how to consult yet reserve the right to make decisions; how to manage rapid success without the necessary investment to support a proper infrastructure. The choice it seems is always one of opposites. This paradigm of opposites, whilst being comfortably familiar, could also be responsible for many of the difficulties which exist in the current management climate. Managing people to do the work is different from managing the work for people to do. A fundamental shift is required in the managers thinking so that s/he can begin to manage people as people in the context of their work targets, structures, systems, hierarchies, procedures and the like.

Consequently Phoenix was developed from a desire to bring to individuals and organisations new ways of tackling old problems and to help managers and practitioners think creatively about their people, product and planning systems. It’s Director and Associates operate using a total communication framework and seek to provide for clients holistic solutions to the day to day dilemmas which face all people based work environments.

People systems are complex and almost always require special effort from all those concerned to ensure that productive and effective output is maintained. Phoenix has made an art form of drawing out from organisational stakeholders the essential ingredients required for good and productive working relationships and in doing so has created a context within which profitable company futures emerge from the people themselves. In other words Phoenix likes to see itself as an independent yet expert “helper” to the organisation it works alongside. It takes a partnering approach to all its contracts and works cooperatively with personnel in the host organisation(s) to add value to the home-grown expertise already available.
